Ulthera
Microfocused ultrasound platform with real-time visualisation (MFU-V)
The ULTHERA® System (often referred to as the Ulthera machine) is a medical aesthetic device platform that combines microfocused ultrasound energy with real-time ultrasound visualisation. This “see-and-treat” approach is a core part of the system design, allowing the operator to visualise tissue structures and then deliver energy at selected depths.
At Mayam Aesthetics, this technology is presented as a premium, image-guided ultrasound platform, where the hardware and transducers are built specifically to support depth-selective delivery with live imaging.
WHAT THE MACHINE CONSISTS OF
1) Real-time visualisation (imaging)
A key feature of the ULTHERA® System is its real-time ultrasound visualisation, which helps the clinician identify tissue layers and guide where energy is delivered. The manufacturer notes that tissues can be visualised up to 8 mm in depth.
2) DeepSEE® image/treat transducers (the core hardware)
Ulthera uses DeepSEE® transducers that are designed to image and treat. According to the Instructions for Use (IFU), a transducer can:
- Image and treat a region up to 25 mm long
- Image to a depth up to 8 mm
The manufacturer also describes these as multi-patient-use transducers, built to deliver treatment at specific depths while imaging simultaneously.
DEPTHS AND TRANSDUCERS
The ULTHERA® System is built around depth selection using different transducers. The manufacturer describes treatment depths at:
1.5 mm, 3.0 mm, and 4.5 mm, corresponding to different tissue targets and anatomical levels.
The IFU describes multiple transducer options and parameters (frequency, treatment depth, imaging depth, scan length). Examples in the IFU include transducers that treat at 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm, and 4.5 mm, with imaging depth specified up to 8 mm, and scan lengths of 25 mm (with some variants listed at 14 mm).
HOW THE ULTHERA MACHINE WORKS (DEVICE-LEVEL EXPLANATION)
From a device standpoint, the sequence is:
- The clinician uses the transducer to visualise tissue in real time.
- Based on the image, the clinician selects the appropriate depth (via transducer choice).
- The system then delivers microfocused ultrasound energy in a controlled manner along the treatment line defined by the transducer.
This is the manufacturer’s core differentiator: imaging and delivery are integrated so treatment is not performed “blind.”
