Introduction
Welcome to Mayam Aesthetics’ guide to fractional laser treatment. Comprehensive contraindications, pre-care, and post-care information for your fractional laser in Riyadh are provided here. If you have any queries, please call our receptionists, who will gladly help you.
Medical History
If your health has changed or you have begun taking new medicine since your last visit, please let us know before your appointment so that we can ensure your treatment is still appropriate for you.
Test Patch: What to Look For
- Test patches are used to determine the skin’s reactivity and initial treatment settings. We want to ensure that you are treated safely and properly.
- Small sections of skin in the intended treatment region are examined, and if no adverse reactions occur after one week, fractional CO2 laser in Riyadh can begin.
- What we ask is that you keep track of any redness or swelling and how long it takes for it to go away after applying the test patch, as well as whether the skin blisters or feels overly hot, and for how long.
- Pre- and post-treatment recommendations must be followed.
Fractional Laser Contraindications
This therapy may not be appropriate if you are or have the following:
- Recent UV exposure (one month before the fractional laser for scars in Riyadh). To reduce the possibility of pigmentation alterations, the patient must also avoid sun exposure for one month after treatment.
- Fake-tanned skin comprises moisturizers and after-sun treatments that produce a ‘sun-kissed shine.’ Contains tanning additives like Melanotan or other tanning boosters, including injections, nasal sprays, or pills.
- Pregnancy and nursing.
- Pigmentation diseases (melasma and vitiligo)
- History of any type of cancer (GP/consultant’s letter to confirm it is safe to treat; must be in remission for 12 months).
- Poorly managed diabetes
- Epilepsy – note from doctor confirming it is okay to treat
- Lymphatic/Immune diseases
- Keloid scarring
- Photosensitive disorders (e.g., lupus and porphyria)
- If you have a history of heat-induced disorders, such as recurring Herpes Simplex in the treatment region, a preventive routine needs to be followed—prescription Acyclovir must be taken for one week—before, during, and after the treatment.
- Photosensitizing medication
- All PDT medicines (such as Foscan, ALA, and Metvix). Wait six months (oral) or six weeks (topical).
- Roaccutane (acne treatment). Wait 6 months before using topical retinoids such as Retin-A or Differin. Wait two weeks.
- St. John’s Wort (herbal antidepressant). Wait four weeks.
- Amiodarone (anti-arrhythmic). Wait four weeks.
- Minocycline (antibiotic). Wait four weeks.
- Topical steroids (wait a minimum of one week).
- High-dose oral steroids (wait a minimum of one month)
- Cannot get gold salt injections or gold medications for arthritis therapy.
- If you are taking any other prescription drug that is not on this list, please notify the clinic before your treatment.
Pre Fractional Laser Treatment Instructions
Please:
- Stop utilizing prescribed retinoids (tretinoin) or other prescription-grade actives, such as benzoyl peroxide, two weeks before fractional laser for acne scars in Riyadh.
- Avoid retinol, exfoliating acids, and any other active skincare for 5-7 days before your treatment, depending on your skin condition and your practitioner’s advice.
- Avoid waxing the region seven days before fractional laser sessions in Riyadh.
Post Fractional Laser Treatment Instructions
- To decrease skin heating and the possibility of skin responses, the treatment area can be chilled before, during, and after the process. If the region is still too hot at home, use a cold flannel or cool pack. Do not put ice packs or ice in direct contact with your skin.
- Following treatment, the region may seem red and elevated, and you may feel tingly. This is quite normal and should subside during the following several days.
- Occasionally, you may suffer swelling or bruising, which can persist anywhere from 1-2 days to 1-2 weeks. If you develop swelling, it often worsens one to two days after the fractional laser Riyadh. If it occurs after a cosmetic treatment, resting with your head elevated on pillows will help to minimize its presence. Ice packs can also assist in minimizing swelling. If your skin is really sensitive and prone to histamine responses, you may want to try taking an antihistamine.
- Makeup can be applied after 12 hours if the skin is not irritated.
- For the next 4 to 5 days after fractional laser skin resurfacing in Riyadh, the treated region should be kept safe from trauma.
- For 24-48 hours, avoid vigorous activities such as sauna and steam, very hot baths, and massage.
- Wash and bathe as usual, but use chilly showers instead of hot tubs. The skin should be patted dry, not massaged. To alleviate inflammation and protect the skin, apply a soothing serum or aloe vera gel. If there is any discomfort, treat the area as you would a sunburn.
- Use a sunscreen (SPF 30+) to protect the region from the sun as much as possible between sessions and for at least one month after the treatment is completed. Failure to do this might result in sunburn and hyperpigmentation of the treated region. (The majority of pigmentation changes occur when the treated region is exposed to sunlight or in persons with darker skin types.)
- If blistering happens, call the fractional laser clinic in Riyadh right away for additional assistance. Keep the area clean and dry, and let it heal normally. Do not use lotions or creams on exposed skin since they may increase the risk of infection. DO NOT pick blisters, as this may increase the likelihood of a scar developing. Once the skin has healed, wear a high-protection sunscreen every day for the next 12 months to avoid pigmentation changes.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Fractional laser treatment is not suitable for everyone, and a consultation is essential before the procedure. People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have recent sun exposure or fake tan products, have active skin infections, poorly controlled diabetes, or certain pigmentation disorders may need to postpone treatment. Those taking photosensitizing medications, oral isotretinoin (Roaccutane), or prescription retinoids should also wait for the recommended period before treatment. Individuals with a history of keloid scarring, epilepsy, immune disorders, or skin cancer should inform their practitioner. Your medical history will be carefully reviewed to ensure the treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
Preparing your skin properly helps improve results and reduces the risk of complications. Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning products, and self-tanning lotions for at least one month before treatment. Stop using prescription retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, exfoliating acids, and other active skincare products as advised by your practitioner. Refrain from waxing or irritating the treatment area for at least one week beforehand. If recommended, attend a test patch appointment to assess your skin’s response to the laser. Always inform your clinic about any new medications or medical conditions before your appointment.
Following fractional laser treatment, it is normal to experience redness, warmth, mild swelling, and a tingling sensation in the treated area. These effects usually improve within a few days, although some swelling or bruising may last longer depending on the treatment intensity and individual healing response. Cooling the skin with a cold compress can help relieve discomfort, but ice should never be applied directly to the skin. Most patients can resume normal daily activities quickly, although strenuous exercise, hot baths, steam rooms, and saunas should be avoided for 24 to 48 hours. Your practitioner will provide personalized aftercare instructions to support healing.
Proper aftercare is essential for achieving the best results. Wash the treated area gently using cool or lukewarm water and pat the skin dry instead of rubbing it. Apply only the soothing products recommended by your practitioner, such as aloe vera gel or a calming serum. Avoid picking, scratching, or peeling any flaking skin, as this may increase the risk of scarring or pigmentation changes. Makeup can usually be applied after 12 hours if the skin is not irritated. Daily use of a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen is essential for at least one month to protect the healing skin.
You should contact your clinic immediately if you experience unusual symptoms following treatment. While mild redness and swelling are expected, severe pain, excessive blistering, signs of infection, prolonged swelling, or unexpected skin reactions require prompt medical advice. If blisters develop, keep the area clean and dry, avoid applying creams unless instructed, and do not pick the skin. Your practitioner can assess your symptoms and recommend appropriate care to minimize complications. Attending follow-up appointments also allows your provider to monitor healing and determine whether additional treatment sessions are needed.
