Picosure

Picosure

At Mayam Aesthetics, PicoSure® (often referred to as a “pico laser”) is Cynosure’s picosecond laser platform designed for pigmentary conditions and tattoo removal, with additional applications in skin revitalisation when used with the appropriate accessories. The core principle of the system is picosecond pulse delivery (trillionths of a second), which targets the chromophore while helping to limit unnecessary thermal injury.

PicoSure is built around ultra-short picosecond pulse durations, which Cynosure describes as creating an intense effect in extremely short bursts. This approach helps minimise thermal damage while effectively targeting unwanted pigment.

Wavelength capabilities

Cynosure notes PicoSure can treat across multiple wavelengths depending on configuration:

  • 755 nm (core wavelength)
  • Optional 532 nm (adds capability for certain tattoo ink colours)
  • 1064 nm delivery referenced for treating black ink in darker skin types

PicoSure Pro is described as the world’s first 755 nm picosecond laser and includes optional 532 nm and 1064 nm add-ons for expanded tattoo removal capabilities.

Spot sizes and customisation

Cynosure states PicoSure supports treatment customisation via multiple spot sizes, including variable and fixed handpieces (for PicoSure Pro), enabling clinicians to tailor energy delivery to the target and area.

Focus™ Lens Array (accessory)

Cynosure highlights the Focus™ Lens Array (and on PicoSure Pro, the Platinum Focus™ lens) as an accessory that expands picosecond technology beyond tattoo removal into skin revitalisation use-cases, described as creating microscopic photomechanical reactions in the epidermis that signal the dermis, supporting collagen and elastin response with minimal downtime.

Device features for tattoo removal use-cases

Cynosure states:

  • 755 nm targets black, blue, and green tattoo inks
  • Optional 532 nm targets “sunset colours” (red, yellow, orange)
  • A “boost mode” is described to help treat recalcitrant tattoos with shortened pulse width

How many sessions (manufacturer guidance)

For unwanted pigment, Cynosure notes that most pigment may significantly lighten or clear in 2–3 sessions.

While individual protocols vary based on patient and indication.
